GSHEC is doing a wide range of acivities for the development of vulnerable people.
Good Shepherd Health Education Centre and Dispensary (GSHEC) is a Non-Governmental Organization based at Karamadai, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu, South India. It has been working for the Welfare and upliftment of the downtrodden people through Sustainable Development Programs.
Established in 1977 by the Franciscan Clarist Congregation, the organization was registered as a charitable society under Tamil Nadu societies Registration act in the year 1981. In 2005, the branch Karunya Social Centre was established in Valparai to enhance the living qualities of mostly tea puckers in the hill area.
Initially the Centre concentrated purely on the health needs of the people, but in the later years it has expanded its services. Now there are activities in social empowerment, political empowerment, economic empowerment and literacy programmes.
We helped poor and marginalised rural communities in 200 villages in Karamadai Block, Mettupalayam & P.N Palayam, Valparai Hills of Tamil Nadu State, South India.

The work of Good Shepherd can be outlined under the six components Health, Social Empowerment, Economic Empowerment, Infrastructure, Education and Skill Training.
The approaches of Good Shepherd are generally very community centred. Building a community structure is our main tool for social empowerment.
Extending one's knowledge is the first measurement to give the ability of making an improvement to her or his life.
The goal of the component Economical Empowerment is to provide financial independence and stability for women in the society.
Having a good education is the basement of a bright and economical secure future for the individual and society.
Being in good health is essential for happiness and well being. Therefore our ambition is to improve the health status of villagers.
Having a place to call home is fundamental for a regular life and gives economic security.
We help young Women , men & children from about 30,000 families, in 200 Villages in Karamadai.
