The programme is designed for illiterate women living in the village sides The Adult education programme in the project could bring a hike in the literacy rate in the villages.
More than 25 % of females in Tamil Nadu are illiterate and therefore hindered in their autonomy and self esteem. Illiteracy was a cause for the women to keep a distance from entering into the development aspects both individually and socially. Due to their low self-confidence, they were afraid to join in the group because they feared becoming the group animator or representative.
SC Illiterate women in the village are being trained under the non-formal education programme by the village animator and the SHG animators. As a part of the program, exercise book containing alphabets, small words, poems and numbers are distributed to the trainees.
